Client: Johns
Location:  Nampa, ID
Year Completed:  2020

This small kitchen remodel brought together classic and contemporary design elements to create a fresh and inviting space. The new white paint-grade Shaker cabinets provided a clean and timeless look, while the deep blue island added a bold contrast, serving as both a functional workspace and a striking visual centerpiece.

This prep kitchen remodel was designed with a blend of elegance and innovation, featuring a combination of white Shaker cabinets, luxurious Italian marble floor tiles, and cutting-edge lighting solutions. The centerpiece of the kitchen was the semi-translucent Onyx countertops, which were illuminated from beneath by LED panels. This lighting not only highlighted the natural beauty of the Onyx but also added a modern, ambient glow to the space, creating a unique and visually striking effect.

In addition to the prep kitchen, the remodel included a custom study station with an attached hall tree, seamlessly integrating functionality and style. The study station utilized the same LED panels and Onyx countertop as the kitchen, maintaining a cohesive design throughout the space. The warm, illuminated Onyx surface provided a sophisticated touch, making the study station both practical and visually appealing. This remodel successfully combined classic elements with contemporary technology, resulting in a space that was as functional as it was beautiful.

The Challenges

The prep kitchen remodel, featuring white Shaker cabinets, Italian marble floor tiles, and illuminated Onyx countertops, presented several complex challenges. One of the primary difficulties was fabricating the cabinets on-site, a process that required precision and craftsmanship to ensure they fit perfectly within the space and aligned seamlessly with the design elements.

Another significant challenge was the installation of the low voltage wiring and LED panels beneath the semi-translucent Onyx countertops. The wiring had to be meticulously planned and executed to not only power the LED panels effectively but also allow for future maintenance. This meant that each LED panel needed to be removable from inside the cabinets even after the Onyx countertops were installed. Achieving this level of accessibility while maintaining the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the cabinets required careful engineering and attention to detail. Despite these complexities, the project was completed successfully, resulting in a beautifully lit and functional prep kitchen and study station that perfectly balanced elegance with practicality.

The design incorporated white paint-grade Shaker cabinets and a deep blue island, which not only added visual appeal but also cleverly increased storage and workspace. The installation of the over-the-fridge wine rack cabinet was a strategic choice, turning an often-overlooked area into valuable storage space. Careful planning was required to ensure that the quartz countertops and subway tile backsplash complemented the design while maintaining the kitchen’s practicality. Despite the spatial constraints, the project successfully created a kitchen that was both stylish and highly functional, making the most of every available inch.
