Project Description
Client: Defriez
Location: Nampa, ID
Year Completed: 2021
In a newly constructed custom home, the kitchen was designed to be both a functional workspace and a stunning centerpiece. The focal point of the design is the new rustic hickory cabinets, which were carefully crafted to enhance the home’s overall aesthetic. The natural warmth and texture of the hickory bring a sense of rustic elegance to the space, perfectly complementing the home’s custom features.
A custom banister railing seamlessly ties the kitchen to the rest of the house, creating a cohesive design that flows effortlessly from one area to the next. The kitchen’s crowning feature is a shiplap hood, wrapped in a rustic hickory apron, which adds a touch of craftsmanship and character to the room. This combination of elements not only highlights the beauty of the natural wood but also demonstrates a commitment to quality and detail in every aspect of the home’s construction. The result is a kitchen that serves as both a practical space for cooking and a striking showcase of custom design.
The Challenges
The kitchen design and installation for this custom home faced several significant challenges that tested both skill and resourcefulness. One of the primary obstacles was the decision to build the rustic hickory cabinets on-site using a mobile wood shop. This approach allowed for maximum customization, but it also required setting up and operating a full woodworking operation in less-than-ideal conditions.
The project took place during a snowy winter, which added another layer of difficulty. Working in cold, snowy conditions required extra precautions to protect both the materials and the team. The weather also complicated logistics, from transporting materials to ensuring the mobile shop was functional and safe in the elements.
Additionally, coordinating with other trades on-site was a constant challenge. With multiple teams working simultaneously, careful scheduling and communication were essential to keep the project on track and meet the tight timeline. Despite these hurdles, the project was completed successfully, resulting in a beautifully crafted kitchen that seamlessly integrated with the rest of the custom home.
