Project Description
Client: Bridges
Location: Weiser, ID
Year Completed: 2021
In the heart of a charming farmhouse in Weiser, Idaho, both the kitchen and bathroom underwent a stunning transformation that beautifully blends rustic charm with modern elegance.
The kitchen now features beautifully glazed rustic hickory cabinets, their warm tones and natural wood grain adding a timeless appeal. Floating shelves provide an open, airy feel, perfect for displaying treasured kitchenware, while chiseled leather granite countertops offer a unique texture that complements the natural wood elements. Dual wine racks add a touch of sophistication, and a live tree log, repurposed as a structural column, grounds the design in nature, honoring the home’s surroundings.
In the bathroom, the same attention to detail is evident. A custom vanity and linen cabinet, crafted from the same rustic hickory as the kitchen cabinets, create a cohesive flow throughout the home. The glazed finish on the wood brings warmth to the space, while offering ample storage for linens and bathroom essentials, ensuring both beauty and practicality.
The Challenges
This farmhouse remodel in Weiser, Idaho, presented a unique set of challenges that required careful planning and skilled craftsmanship. Over the years, the house had undergone multiple room additions, each one constructed by the farmer who owned the property. These additions, while full of character, lacked the uniformity and structural integrity typically found in professional construction. This meant that significant adjustments were necessary to align the new design with the existing framework, ensuring stability and a seamless integration of the old with the new.
Adding to the complexity, the home had suffered flood damage during the 2017 ice jam on the Weiser River. The water had left its mark, particularly on the lower levels, where extensive repairs were needed to address both visible and hidden damage. Floors had to be reinforced, and walls had to be rebuilt with materials that could withstand future moisture challenges, all while preserving the farmhouse’s rustic charm. Despite these obstacles, the remodel was completed with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a home that not only honors its history but also offers modern comfort and style.
